Early childhood education broadly follows the definition of SDG indicator 4.2.2 Participation rate in organized learning. The age range considered is 36-59 months.

The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Children between 3 years to 4 years of age (KR - Children's Recode) who are attending some form of organized early childhood education programme.
• Frequency child went to anganwadi/ICDS centre for early childhood care/preschool in the last 12 months: Regularly or Occasionally
The standard LNOB analysis for Early childhood education includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the wealth distribution)
• Residence: urban or rural
• Sex: male or female
• Education level of the child's mother: lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
• Number of children under 5 in the household: none (<0.5), 1 or more (>0.5), 2 or more (>1.5), 3 or more (>2.5), fewer than 2 (<1.5), fewer than 3 (<2.5)
