Basic drinking water follows the definition of SDG indicator 1.4.1 Use of drinking water from an improved source that is available with a collection time of not more than 30 minutes for a round trip, including queuing. This indicator is also related to: 6.1.1 Proportion of population using safely managed drinking water services.

The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Household-level data (HH-Household Survey)
• Source of drinking water: improved source (piped water, boreholes or tube wells, protected dug wells, protected springs, and packages or delivered water)
The standard LNOB analysis for Basic drinking water includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the wealth distribution)
• Highest education level in the household (any member): lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
