Basic sanitation follows the definition of SDG indicator 1.4.1 Use of improved facilities that are not shared with other households. This indicator is also related to: 6.2.1 Proportion of population using safely manages sanitation services, including a hand-washing facility with soap and water.

Data Source: DHS
The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Household-level data (HR - Household Recode)
• Improved facilities include: flush/pour flush to piped sewer systems, septic tanks or pit latrines; ventilated improved pit latrines, composting toilets or pit latrines with slabs.

The standard LNOB analysis for basic sanitation includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the wealth distribution)
• Residence: urban or rural
• Highest education level in the household (any member): lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
