Inadequate housing measures the proportion of urban households who are living in dwellings that have inadequate conditions based on several criteria, namely accces to basic drinking water, access to improved sanitation, finished and durable or permanent materials used in the construction of floors, wallks and roofs and whether the household is overcrowded with more than 3 people per room within the dwelling. It relates closely to SDG 11.1.1 which measures the share of slum population in urban areas. The operational defintiion using household surveys follow UN-Habitat and UN Statistic Division guidance.

The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Households: Urban households only.
The standard LNOB analysis for Inadequate Housing includes the following circumstances:
• Expenditure per capita of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the distribution)
• Level of education attained by the household head: no education, primary, secondary or post-secondary
• Sex of household head: female or male
• Number of children under 5: 0, 1, 2 or 3+.
