PakistanSindh2019MICSBasicWater
Basic drinking water follows the definition of SDG indicator 1.4.1 Use of drinking water from an improved source that is available with a collection time of not more than 30 minutes for a round trip, including queuing. This indicator is also related to: 6.1.1 Proportion of population using safely managed drinking water services.
Data Source: MICS
The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Household-level data (HH-Household Survey)
• Source of drinking water: improved source (piped water, boreholes or tube wells, protected dug wells, protected springs, and packages or delivered water)
The standard LNOB analysis for Basic drinking water includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the wealth distribution)
• Residence: urban or rural
• Highest education level in the household (any member): lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
Comparison over time: MICS5 retains the report definition, with tanker trucks and carts unimproved and bottled water classified by the other water source. MICS6 counts tanker trucks, carts and bottled water as improved. The comparison remains available, but part of a change between rounds can reflect this difference in definitions.
