Skilled birth attendance broadly follows the definition of SDG indicator 3.1.2 Proportion of births attended by skilled health personnel. However, it refers to the proportion of women (rather than births) who have given birth in the past 2 years with the attendance of skilled health personnel.
Data Source: MICS
The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Women ages 15 - 49 years who have given birth in the 2 years preceding the survey (WM - Individual Women's Survey)
• Skilled health personnel: generally doctors, nurses or midwives but can refer to other health professionals providing childbirth care.
The standard LNOB analysis for Skilled birth attendance includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the wealth distribution)
• Residence: urban or rural
• Education level: lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
• Age group: 15-24, 25-34 and 35-49
• Number of children born (this refers to number of births per woman questioned): none (<0.5), 1 or more (>0.5), 2 or more (>1.5), 3 or more (>2.5), fewer than 2 (<1.5), fewer than 3 (<2.5)
• Marital status: single, married, divorced, separated
Analysis including disability: interviewed women and men aged 18-49, as applicable to this indicator, with their own survey weights. These Pakistan MICS6 surveys provide a binary functional-difficulty variable (no difficulty / has difficulty), rather than the six item-level answers. Adults with no disability answer are excluded. Disability prevalence is below the 5% minimum group in these surveys, so a tree may not split by disability. Results remain published with the existing minimum group rule.
