Literacy measures the proportion of individuals aged 15-49 who attended schooling higher than the secondary level or who can read a whole sentence or part of a sentence about everyday life. It broadly follows the definition of SDG indicator 4.6.1 Proportion of population in a given age group achieving at least a fixed level of proficiency in functional literacy and numeracy skills.

Birth registration follows the definition of SDG indicator 16.9.1 Percentage of children under age 5 whose births are reported registered with a civil authority.

• Birth registration: Children under age 5 have a birth certificate that is seen by enumerators, or is verbally confirmed by parents.

Mobile Phone (Individual) follows the definition of SDG indicator 5.b.1 to enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women. 

Note: The results currently include women aged 15-49 who responded to the respective question on mobile phone ownership.

Violence against women justified measures the proportion of women who believe a husband is justified in beating his wife (for certain reasons).

• The reasons provided as possible justifications of violence against women are: 1) If she goes out without telling him; 2) If she neglects the children; 3) If she argues with him; 4) If she refuses sex with him; 5) If she burns the food.

Use of financial services follows the definition of SDG indicator 8.10.2 Proportion of adults (15 years and older) with an account at a bank or other financial institution or with a mobile money-service provider.

Bank account (Household) measures the proportion of households with at least one household member with an account at a bank (household-level).
