Birth registration follows the definition of SDG indicator 16.9.1 Percentage of children under age 5 whose births are reported registered with a civil authority.

The following data is considered for this analysis:
• Children under age 5 from the Household Member Recode (HR).
• Birth registration: Children under age 5 have a birth certificate that is seen by enumerators, or is verbally confirmed by parents.
The standard LNOB analysis for Birth registration includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 per cent of the household wealth distribution
• Residence: urban or rural
• Education level of child’s mother: lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
• Child age (in years): 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4
• Child sex: female or male
• Number of children under age 5 in the household: none (<0.5), 1 or more (>0.5), 2 or more (>1.5), 3 or more (>2.5), fewer than 2 (<1.5), fewer than 3 (<2.5)
