Basic drinking water follows the definition of SDG indicator 1.4.1 Use of drinking water from an improved source that is available with a collection time of not more than 30 minutes for a round trip, including queuing. This indicator is also related to: 6.1.1 Proportion of population using safely managed drinking water services.

The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Household-level data
• Source of drinking water: improved source (protected well, tube well, tap water (NWSDB, community-based, local government or private project), rainwater, bottled water and walter filter center).
The standard LNOB analysis for Basic drinking water includes the following circumstances:
• Expenditure per capita of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the distribution)
• Residence: urban, rural or estate
• Level of education attained by the household head: no education, primary, secondary or post-secondary
• Sex of household head: female or male
