Skilled birth attendance broadly follows the definition of SDG indicator 3.1.2 Proportion of births attended by skilled health personnel. However, it refers to the proportion of women (rather than births) who have given birth with the attendance of skilled health personnel in the past 5 years.

Data Source: MICS
The following data are considered for this analysis:
• Women ages 15 - 49 years who have given birth in the 2 years preceding the survey (WM - Individual Women's Survey)
• Skilled health personnel: generally doctors, nurses or midwives but can refer to other health professionals providing childbirth care.

The standard LNOB analysis for Skilled birth attendance includes the following circumstances:
• Wealth of the household: top 60 or bottom 40 (of the wealth distribution)
• Residence: urban or rural
• Education level: lower (primary or less), secondary or higher
• Age group: 15-24, 25-34 and 35-49
• Number of children born (this refers to number of births per woman questioned): none (<0.5), 1 or more (>0.5), 2 or more (>1.5), 3 or more (>2.5), fewer than 2 (<1.5), fewer than 3 (<2.5)
• Marital status: single, married, divorced, separated
